And the verdict is....

No one has ever been able to tell us what exactly kind (or kindS) of dog Allee is. We have REALLY wanted to know, but everyone gave us a different guess and that's all it was...a guess. So when my parents were at PetSmart one night and heard about DNA tests for dogs, well my dad jumped on that real quick. It wasn't a very expensive test, very easy to do and the company that does the tests is legit. So one Sunday night, Ross and Jake held Allee down while my dad swabbed the inside of her mouth to send off to BioPet Vet Lab. Two weeks later we got this nice little certificate in the mail with the results and information about the breeds that were found in Allee. Not one breed, not two or even three or four. But FIVE count them FIVE breeds in our little mutt! Were we surprised, no. We knew that since no one could tell what Allee is and because she is so...shall we say unique, she was a mutt through and through. Sure enough! Now since I know you can't read the beautiful certificate....here's what they told us...

They base everything on levels. It says first that Allee is Level 3 Miniature Pinscher and Saint Bernard. This means these breeds represent 20%-36% each of Allee's DNA. She also has Level 4 Lhasa Apso and Siberian Husky which each make up 10%-19% of her DNA. And at Level 5, less than 10% of her DNA indicated Akita. That's our girl!! I believe Ross's words were "wow her mom was a hoe." And her mom before that and before that and before that....

These pages explained how to understand the test results and the Behavior, Health and Personality Summary for each breed. Allee fits in to a lot of what was explained about each breed but there are things that don't fit too. She definitely has the look of a Saint Bernard with the stance of the Siberian Husky. She is lively, assertive, friendly and hardy" as the Lhasa Apso is. She is definitey "demanding and headstrong..with a high energy" like the pinscher. She is very loyal to us...she hates to leave our sides or be out of sight, just like a Saint Bernard. Like the Siberian Husky she is hardy and fierce yet gentle and friendly, cheerful and willful, with a mind of her own! And like the Akita she has a strong instinct to chase anything that moves! So we learned a lot about Allee from these tests and think it was well worth it. Here are picture from her most recent photo shoot....

Poor thing can't keep her tongue in her mouth!
We've been told she hasn't grown into her tongue yet...ha!! But seriously, she almost always looks like an escapee from the doggie insane asylum.
We love to dance..:)
She LOVES to run around in the backyard, especially if she can find one of us to run with her. I went out with her this day and played fetch...one of her favorites of course.
She likes to fetch and then run a lap around the pool...silly dog.

Action shot...running back to me finally!

Got it!

Looks just a little bit tuckered out!!

This is one of her favorite spots in the whole house. She'll lay down here and take naps so that's what she did right when we back inside. I think she likes it because she can see my dad working in his study on one side, and any of us in the den in front of her. And then if anyone comes down the stairs or up to the front door she can see that too. Smarty pants! We've grown to love Allee a lot over the past few months. We boarded her for the first time while we go on our family vacation over Spring Break so we'll see how she does. I love how I say "we" all the time. My parents have officially adopted her since their house is way better for her than our apartment. So they do all of the care taking now :)

Speaking of Spring Break....SO glad it's here! I really need it. We are going on a family vaca with my fam and my grandparents to celebrate their 80th birthdays...wow! Should be fun...expect a lengthy blog about that too!

Spoken like a true mommy...lots of pics and all. Well, almost like a true mommy. Most mommies know who their baby daddy is. *giggle* I'm cracking up at Ross trying to picture Allee's grandma making a name for herself with some stray dog behind some downtown fastfood joint or something.
