Building our First Home!

At the end of February/beginning of March Jake and I started looking for a home to buy. We definitely wanted to take advantage of the first time home buyers tax credit and we had just found out we were expanding our family. We are renting a house right now and enjoy the extra room but HATE throwing away all that money each month. So buying felt right to us. We looked at tons of house with our amazing realtor (Kathy Mandagelo with Remax if you ever need a realtor in the Houston area....) and found some that we really liked. But she wouldn't let us stop there. She wanted to take us to a new subdivision here in Katy to look at possibly building a home or buying a spec home. We agreed and met with Meritage builders...we liked what we saw and we liked the incentives but weren't completely sold on their floor plas. We wondered over to Brighton Homes and fell in love. Their model home was perfect for us....beautiful, open, lots of space, and it had all of the things we were looking for. Before we knew it within a few weeks we had signed a contract and were well on our way to becoming first time home BUILDERS! We've gone to the design center to pick out all our interior items with our $13,000 in upgrade money...so glad Jake's mom went with us because making decisions is NOT my thing! The official start date for the house was March 29 and they just poured the foundation this past Thursday (April 8th). They are framing it on Monday and things are just moving right along! We should be able to move in mid-late June, just in time to get our credit. Big changes are happening in the Anderson household...big changes!
Looking at our lot

This home is similar to what ours will look like but not quite. That is the brick color we picked out though.

A few of our selections from the design center....

March 29, 2010. Let the construction begin!!
