Mrs. Anderson's All-Stars

My sister called me yesterday to let me know she had pretty much planned my non-existent classroom. (Love ya Brooke!) She's dreamed up a wonderful theme for me which I of course fell in love with and can't wait to get started on. I've been collecting things for my classroom gradually so it's nice to have a theme in mind for some things I want to buy. For Brooke's birthday/graduation last year I got her a big basket full of things she could use in her classroom, and I think she is doing something similar for me, with the theme of Mrs. Anderson's All-Stars. I'm keeping my ideas on the sketch pad for now, I'll share more later! But I'm so excited already...might want to finish Student Teaching and actually graduate first huh?! Speaking of, I have my last certification test on Saturday!

Along with the topic.....I got this email the other day. Just goes to show you how underpaid and UNDERVALUED teachers are!

Sick of those high price teachers??

Their hefty salaries are driving up taxes, and they only work nine or ten months a year!

It's time we put things in perspective and pay them for what they do...baby-sit!

I would give them $3.00 dollars an hour and only the hours they worked, not any of that silly planning time. That would be $19.50 a day (7:45 AM to 4:00 PM with 45 min. off for lunch).

Each parent should pay $19.50 a day for these teachers to baby-sit their children.

Now, how many do they teach in a day...maybe 30? So that's 19.5 X 30 = $585.00 a day.

But remember they only work 180 days a year! I'm not going to pay them for any vacations. Let's see...that's $585 x 180 = $105,300 per year.

(Hold on! My calculator must need batteries!)

What about those special teachers or the ones with master's degrees?

Well, we could pay them minimum wage just to be fair, round it off to $7.00 an hour. That would be $7 times 6-1/2 hours times 30 children times 180 days= $245,700.00 per year.

HA!! Maybe one day....not in the near future though. The ONLY presidential candidate who has uttered a single word about education is Barack Obama. Kinda scary to look at the future of our nation when no one cares too much about the education of its children....
